Description
The idea of designing Chandgaon Mosque lies in the
spirituality of the Houses of God. We can find it in preventing ornamentation
and decoration, in the monumental scale, and in the connection between outside
and inside areas, especially in the night when it makes a dramatic scene, when
openings provide natural light and ventilation and reflect the status of mosques
in the community.
The design of the Chandgaon mosque consists of two identical
cuboid volumes, the frontcourt has masonry walls punctuated with wide openings
onto the landscape and an oculus “eyelike opeing in the ceiling”. In the second volume, the naturally lit
mihrab wall is balanced by an iconic, cut dome.
